SHA-256 text & file checksum

Hash entered UTF-8 text or exact local file bytes with Web Crypto, up to 1 MiB. A checksum checks content changes; it is not a digital signature.

SHA-256 hashes the exact raw bytes of a file, or the UTF-8 bytes of entered text. Spaces and line endings affect the digest. Maximum 1 MiB. A checksum detects a changed value; it is not a digital signature or proof of the sender.

Worked example: text abc matches the NIST SHA-256 example.

Text and file bytes stay in your browser. The file is read locally; hashing performs no network request or automatic storage.
